Welcome! I am a writer, community builder, communicator, and candidate for Unitarian Universalist ministry, living in Nashville, Tennessee.
About me.
I'm Rachel Rogers (they/she), a Unitarian Universalist minister-in-formation working toward ordination. I'm also a communications professional, wedding officiant, and seminary student based in Nashville, Tennessee. I love work that brings clarity and care to organizations and communities and helps people move toward what they value.
I live with my spouse, two children, and our dog, Posey, in an old house in the neighborhood where I first lived as a baby and where both my parents grew up. I collect vinyl records, love knitting socks, and try to read as much as possible. I love my garden, heading to the mountains, and watching live music, especially when performed by those with whom Iām in community.
My theology is rooted in a relational understanding of the sacred, emerging from connections among people, communities, the natural world, and the cosmos. I experience the divine as immanent, encountered in mutual care, interdependence, and the ongoing work of collective meaning-making.
Rooted in Unitarian Universalist values, I affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person and the interdependent web of all existence as theological truths. These convictions shape a spiritual practice that is reverent and responsive, open to wonder, grounded in this world, and oriented toward justice.
This theology calls me to nurture reciprocal relationships and communities that prioritize connection, where the work of collective justice-making is grounded in the art of witnessing one another's wholeness, including the complexities of trauma. I believe that when we truly witness one another, we help heal one another. When we heal, we are more open to connection. And when we understand our deep interconnectedness with all people and the living Earth, we become more intentional in our choices and more energized in our work toward liberation.
For me, ministry is the faithful practice of cultivating spaces where healing, connection, and transformation can take root, and where together we can imagine and build a more justice-centered world.
Called to the work.
I am answering a specific call to pluralistic, liberal religious work in the Southeastern United States, where I have lived my entire life. As a queer, non-binary parent, partner, and friend in this region, I am deeply proud and invested in our collective thriving, and believe that this place and these people are worth fighting for. Outside of Unitarian Universalism, I work in the non-profit sector focused on providing support for underserved students in our public schools and also co-organize multiple queer-centered community organizations in Nashville.
How we can connect.
I am currently available for pulpit supply in Unitarian Universalist or other welcoming congregations. I also work as a wedding officiant, creating personalized ceremonies for couples. I have 15 years of experience in organizational communications and offer contracted services to congregations and small organizations seeking consultation on how to better connect with their communities through communications.
I write a subscription-supported weekly newsletter called Silverseam, where I share how I am connecting the dots and where I am finding joy and meaning. If you would like to support my work, subscribing to Silverseam is a wonderful way to do so, and I extend my deep gratitude to those who do.
